has anyone, other than me, tried to get your friends/loved ones to prove 1919?.

did they really try to prove it to you or did they write you off as hopelessly lost or somewhere in between?

as some of you are aware, i have been trying to get my wife to prove it to me, and if not her, another believing jehovahs witness.

No one in my family will even discuss it. It's taken me years to finally understand that most of the long timers KNOW that the 1914/1919 doctrine along with many of the others we all know about are false. They see the GB as imperfect and feel that the doctines will changed in due time via Jehovah's spirit. They have no interest in the details. These people don't want to leave. They like the people they associate with. They're not willing to give up family and friends by leaving, period. This actually works like a mob mentality; everyone following everyone else. As long as the GB doesn't emphisize the older doctrines they could care less .

Did you find reading the Bible enjoyable but your enjoyment was later soiled by the watchtower's take on it?

i enjoyed reading the bible and my favourite was an asv i purchased at an a$$emby.. however, when i wanted to bone up on a passage or verse, i'd look at the insight or watchtowers and found the wtb$ really did ruin my enjoyment when they explained what i was reading.

i think it must have been the self serving spin the wtb$ put on the scriptures!.

anyone else get this and can comment why this happened?.

I actually hated reading the Bible up untill 10 or 12 years ago. The problem was that I believed what the JW's taught and it didn't set well with me at all. After casting of that belief I have found reading and researching the Bible to be fascinating. I have about 10 different translations and comparing the readings from all of them yields some very surprising results. My favorite is the Companion Bible. The footnotes in the CB will really open your eyes. It was compiled by E.W. Bullinger, one of the most renowned bible scholers of the past century. The text is the KJV but it's the footnotes that are amazing. It's available online as a free download (sorry, don't have the link) but you should be able to find it by just entering Companion Bible download.

Ask an elder why there are images of an ark of the covenant epicted all over the Egyptian pyramids complete with the carrying poles and angels on top. A little research into Egyptian theology shows that this chest was part of a covenant with one of their deitys (I think Osirus) and was called the "Ark of the Contract". Judaism is probably the most eclectic religion to have ever existed. (Eclectic: borrowing ideas from other religions) Even the idea of monotheism was probably borrowed from Egyption theology when Akinaten established it as the state religion in the 13th century BCE.

Chief Cornerstone ?

if memory serves me correctly the wto taught/teaches the the "chief cornerstone" metaphor representing christ refers to the stone at the bottom corner of a structure as opposed to the "capstone" (the final stone forming the point or apex of a pyramid).

does anyone know if this is still part of their doctrine?

it seems to me that the capstone (like the image on the back of a dollar bill) is the correct interpritation.

This particular doctrine may seem insignificant but it is a small part of a group of strange teachings by the WTO (Michael as Christ, stake vs. cross etc.) that I am researching to determine where these ideas came from. For example the idea and teaching that Jesus is actually Michael the archangel came from none other than Ellen White (founder of the 7th Day Adventists) when in 1844 she had a dream where it was revealed to her. It then became a part of Adventist doctrine. The WTO has an "inspired teaching" from a dream that a leader of false religion had over 150 years ago.

i was talking with flipper on the phone the other day and i mentioned that the cobe formally the po told me that.

i have been told so many stupid things in this religion when it comes to pedophiles that i never truly thought about it before and i just said it to flipper in my conversation.

that is the stupidest thing i have heard.. so i thought i would do a thread about it.

A person listed as a "sex offender" is not necessarily a pedophile. For example if an 18 year old man has sex with his 16 year old girlfriend he can be charged with a sex crime (statutory rape, contributing to delinquency of a minor etc.) A conviction for anything sex related gets you put on the sex offender list.

I've been wondering is meditation bad for a person!

i've been looking into the idea of meditation as of clearing some of my bad thoughts about my jehovah's witness past, will it help remove all the crap that gb drilled into me, but it seems like a different outlook that i hadn't considered, and maybe open my third eye,lol !!!!.

any suggestions or experiences would be most welcome.. best regards,.

I remember a talk years ago on meditation. The speaker demonized it of course comparing it to drug and alcohol abuse. He noted that changing only one letter in the word made it medication.
